What are Geoexchange Systems?
Geoexchange systems are an alternative source of renewable energy that uses free, renewable energy from the sun and below ground to power a building's heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and to supply its hot water needs. Geoexchange systems can reduce traditional energy consumption i.e., natural gas furnaces and hot water heaters, by as much as 80 per cent. Ground source systems are either open or closed systems and typically consist of a loop of hdpe pipe, a compressor, and a pump. Closed systems circulate a fluid which never leaves the heat pump system. A direct expansion system is a special form of closed system that eliminates one heat exchanger by running the refrigerant pipe directly into the ground. Open systems pump a fluid from one place to another, remove or add heat, but do not return that fluid.

Why Invest in Geoexchange Systems?
Geoexchange systems have a tremendous future, but they've been around as long as the earth itself. By tapping into the relatively constant temperature of the earth below the frost line, geoexchange systems can heat and cool a building at a much lower cost than traditional HVAC systems. More and more, office buildings, hotels, retail stores and commercial buildings are discovering how to save tens of thousands of dollars on heating and cooling costs through geoexchange systems. Cost and space savings, greater comfort, lower maintenance and equipment life cycle costs, individual zone control and environmental conservation are just a few benefits of this earth-friendly technology.

  • Lower energy costs and environment impact - a geoexchange system uses 50% less electricity and natural gas as existing forced air heating or cooling systems.
  • Safe and Clean - a geoexchange system doesn't use a flame, there is no flue, no odor and no danger of fire or fumes.
  • Flexible - Provides heating, air conditioning and domestic hot water. That's three systems - all from a singe source system.
  • Low Maintenance - since the main component of the system - the piping - is underground or underwater, there is little maintenance required.
  • Zone Heating and Cooling - different areas of the building can be heated or cooled to different temperatures simultaneously allowing for off peak consumption.
  • Durability - with virtually no moving parts, and parts that are sheltered inside a building, a geoexchange system is durable and highly reliable. Hdpe pipe a life span expectancy of up to 50 years or more.
